Dom Inglot & Robert Lindstedt (SWE) faced Aliaksandr Bury (BLR)  & Denis Istomin (UZB) in the round two match held on court six. Inglot/Lindstedt had a first serve percentage (FSP) of 68% and scored 70% of points behind the serve. Bury/Istomin had a FSP of only 60% however backed it up with 77% of points behind the serve. The set proved to be very close and it headed into a tiebreak. The Brit/Swedish pairing led throughout the tiebreak, and sealed the breaker 7-5. The second set was very similar to the first, although the FSP of the Brit/Swede pairing dipped slightly to 68% and they scored 83% of points behind the first serve. Each team managed to create three break points in the set, but both teams were only able to convert one. As with the first set this set went to a tiebreak. Inglot/Lindstedt proved too strong again as the took the tiebreak 7-3 and the match.

Colin Fleming & Treat Huey (PHI) faced the Australian Davis Cup doubles pairing of Lleyton Hewitt & Sam Groth. As this could be the doubles team to face GB at the semi-final in Glasgow, it would be interesting to see how this match went. Incidentally, this US Open is the final one that Hewitt will play, so every match could well have been his last. In the first set the Aussie pairing had the better FSP with 75%, compared to 68% for Fleming/Huey. However, the Brit/Philippine team backed that up with 81% of points on the serve, to the Aussie 56%. Essentially the difference in the first set came down to break points. The aussies created two chances but failed to convert either, whilst Fleming/Huey took the one break point they created, this was enough to take the first set 6-3. In the second set the aussies did not earn any break point chances on the Fleming/Huey service games, whilst the Brit/Philippine team converted the once chance they had. Fleming/Huey also proved better on second serve points, as they scored 100% of points behind the second serve. This was enough to take the set 6-4 and the match in straight sets.

Jamie Murray & Lisa Raymond faced the sixth seeds Yaroslava Shvedova (KAZ) & Juan Sebastian Cabal (COL). Like Hewitt this was also Raymond’s final US Open as she would retire at the end of her run here. Murray/Raymond started well and had the seeds on the ropes early as they sped out to a 4-1 lead. Helped by converting one of the four break points earned, things were looking good in the set. The seeds had a different plan though and fought back taking the next three games to bring the score level. At 5-5 the seeds broke again their second conversion from three break points earned. Shvedova/Cabal served out to take the first set 7-5. In the second set Murray/Raymond upped their game as they managed to force four break point chances, of which they managed to convert two. This proved the important factor in the set as Murray/Raymond took the set 6-2. Once again it went down to a match tiebreak, the first to 10 points with two points clear. The mini break was exchanged between the teams, before the seeds finally managed to hold the advantage an took it 10-8. This ended Murray/Raymond mixed doubles campaign and Raymonds tennis career.

Play continues at the US Open from 11am (4pm BST).
